Yes. The handpiece, chuck, and all metal components of HQS Medical's veterinary bone drills are fully autoclavable at 134 °C. Only the battery pack and electronic controller are excluded from autoclave sterilization — these are covered with a sterile drape intraoperatively. Sterile disposable drill bits are also available.

What is a sternum saw used for in veterinary surgery?

A sternum saw (oscillating or reciprocating) is used to perform sternotomy — splitting the sternum to access the thoracic cavity for cardiac, pulmonary, and esophageal surgery in dogs and cats. The oscillating blade cuts bone while minimizing soft-tissue trauma to the underlying mediastinum and heart. HQS Medical sternum saws are compatible with standard sternotomy closure plates and wire.
