Buyer decision support

MD-5001 mini surgical drill procurement decision notes

The MD-5001 is the non-cannulated mini drill in the HQS battery-powered orthopaedic drill and saw range. The handpiece works at 7.2 V with an output power of at least 50 W, a no-load speed of 0–1100 rpm, no-load noise of 40 dB or less, diameter run-out of 0.05 mm or less and a unit temperature rise of 20 °C or less. Batteries are 7.2 V and take about 3 hours to charge; the charger runs on AC 220 V, 50 Hz at 30 VA. The handpiece skin is sealed and the unit can be autoclaved at up to 135 °C and 1.6 MPa, with a listed sterilisation time of 20 minutes. The standard configuration is one drill unit, one charger, two rechargeable batteries, two aseptic battery transfer rings, a chuck key, an instruction manual and an aluminium alloy case. The MD-5002 has the same electrical figures but is cannulated, so it can be used over guide wires. Choose the MD-5001 for small-bone drilling where no guide wire is used; choose the MD-5002 if you place cannulated screws or pins over a wire.
